This seminar will focus on the Renewable Energy sector in Spain and the investment opportunities it offers to foreign companies. Thus, we will analyse the current situation and future trends of the sector, highlighting its main competitive advantages.

Renewable energy businesses are rapidly expanding and growing due to volatile oil prices, political turmoil, climate change concerns, and government incentives. As RE businesses flourish and proliferate, they have an increasing need to hire talented and experienced management and technical professionals. This talk will focus on the knowledge and skills needed to break into renewable energy. We will discuss which of your existing skills and talents will be most valuable to RE businesses, and what new background and knowledge you may wish to acquire to better make the jump to a career in renewables. At the end of the talk, participants will have a roadmap to guide them in retooling to join the 21st century explosion of renewable energy.

Presenter – Dr. Stephen Lawrence is the Academic Director of the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship and the Chair of the Management & Entrepreneurship Division in the Leeds School of Business at CU-Boulder. Steve currently teaches courses in sustainable venturing and alternative energy technologies, and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards. His research interests include evaluating the financial and environmental impacts of smart grids, the economic impacts of energy storage, and energy strategies for energy-intensive businesses. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in business from Carnegie-Mellon.

This two-day workshop will survey promising technologies, energy policy implications, and business opportunities in the booming renewable energy industry. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a roadmap to guide them in retooling to join the 21st century explosion of renewable energy.

Purpose. Renewable energy technologies are one of the few bright spots in a troubled economy. Many renewable start-ups are succeeding beyond expectations, renewable companies are expanding and hiring, and massive amounts of federal funds are flowing into the renewables industry.

· Where are the opportunities in renewables?

· What are the current status, key challenges, and likely prospects for renewable technologies?

· What are the implications of renewables for large energy users and other organizations?

· How do I break into the renewables industry?

This workshop will focus on the critical factors that drive the adoption of renewable energy technologies, and will detail which technologies are likely to have immediate impact and which may have impact further in the future. We’ll lay out the policies that promote (and inhibit) new renewables, and provide clear and current examples of companies – large and small – that have successfully entered the renewables industry.
