Bharatbook added a new report on “Global Biofuel Market Analysis” which gives the growth prospects of the biofuel industry in the developing countries. By RNCOS.

Global Biofuel Market Analysis

The global biofuel industry has been witnessing sustainable growth and developments for the past few years in the backdrop of depleting fossil fuels and degradation of environmental conditions. Therefore, many economies have turned their attention towards biofuels. Many countries are supporting the biofuel industry in the form of subsidies and tax incentives which keep the biofuel producing companies profitable. Many governments have implemented mandatory biofuel blend with the conventional fuel to increase its demand. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=102089&rt=Global-Biofuel-Market-Analysis.html )

According to our new research report “Global Biofuel Market Analysis”, the global production of ethanol and biodiesel is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 8% and around 15.5% respectively during 2010-2013. The prospective growth in ethanol and biodiesel production depends on several factors that have been thoroughly discussed in the report.

We have also found that the American region, mainly the US, Brazil and Canada, has been driving the global ethanol industry. The region accounts for around 90% of the total global ethanol production. On the other hand, the EU is the leading biodiesel producer. It accounts for around 60% of the total global biodiesel production.

We have also studied growth prospects of the biofuel industry in the developing countries. Asia Pacific has an enormous potential in the field of biofuel production due to cheap availability of feedstock. The countries covered in the Asia Pacific section include – Australia, Thailand, Japan, India, China and Indonesia. All the countries have shown great interest in raising the production of biofuels in order to use them as alternatives of conventional energy sources.

“Global Biofuel Market Analysis” provides an extensive research and rational analysis of the global biofuel industry and its different segments. It gives a deep insight into the regional trends prevailing across the globe. Analysis and statistics regarding the market size, growth, regional segmentation, and trends in technology developments have been thoroughly studied in the report to provide clients a comprehensive overview of the biofuel industry.

In addition, the report contains information about government support, biofuel distribution issues and cost analysis to help clients formulate appropriate strategies for the expansion of business in untapped markets. The report also gives brief information about the second generation biofuels, which will raise the production capacity per acre land, along with their social and environmental benefits.

Australia’s largest energy retailer, AGL, is putting its energy into innovative and sustainable renewable energy projects, in an effort to minimising the effects of climate change.

Included in its suite of 29 renewable energy assets that it owns or operates, is Suncoast Gold Macadamias in Gympie, Southeast Queensland, which is Australia’s first waste-to-energy (biomass) renewable cogeneration project. ‘Cogeneration’ is generation of both electricity and useful heat that can be used onsite for good use.

What is Biomass?

Biomass is all matter that can be used as fuel for industrial production. It can also include biodegradable wastes that can be burnt as fuel.

How is Biomass energy created?

Biomass can be thought of as storage of solar energy in chemical form. It can be combusted to generate heat and then subsequently converted into other forms of energy.

How do we create energy from Macadamias?

Creating energy from a waste product like the macadamia nut shells involves the following process:

•	Nut shells are burnt in a fire boiler, which creates steam

•	Some of the steam is used to dry the macadamia nuts

•	The majority of the steam is used to drive a turbine to generate clean, renewable electricity

•	About 40% of the electricity is sent to the national power grid as GreenPower

•	About 60% goes to the customer.

What this means for the environment

The macadamia plant produces enough energy from the macadamia nut shells to power the company’s entire manufacturing and processing activity, as well as about 250 Queensland homes.

This innovative waste-to-energy project cuts Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by around 2,500 tonnes per annum – equivalent to taking about 650 cars off the road each year. It has also solved the problem of what to do with the 5,000 tonnes of macadamia shells, enough to fill three Olympic-sized swimming pools, that Suncoast Gold Macadamias processes each year.

Suncoast Gold, which exports Australia’s largest native agricultural crop to more than 20 countries including Japan, Europe and the US, has had its efficiency significantly boosted by the provision of electricity, heat and steam. It has also enhanced its green credentials in the European and Asian markets where consumers are extremely environmentally aware.

By 2010, more than 150 growers throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales are expected to supply Suncoast Gold with about 10,000 tonnes of macadamia nuts each year, doubling the Gympie facility’s output.

AGL’s Asset Manager Neil Cooke says the innovative plant has achieved several firsts. It’s the first of its kind in the world,” he said. “It also has the largest macadamia shell silo (400 tonne capacity, 18 metres high and 10 metres in diameter) in the world and the boiler is showing that it is possible to achieve consistent performance from a renewable energy plant operated on shells.”

AGL is one of Australia’s leading integrated energy companies and the only Australian energy producer with a full suite of renewable generation, providing natural gas and electricity to over 3.2 million customers more than six million Australians.

Other innovative renewable energy assets AGL owns or operates include the ISIS Central Sugar Mill facility in Childers, Queensland, which is AGL’s first renewable cogeneration project to produce energy from sugar cane by-product (bagasse).

The new ASTM D6751 cold Soak Filtration test is leaving many Biodiesel producers and consumers out in the cold. In Response new products are presenting new technology designed specifically to ensure that biodiesel products conform to the ASTM standard for cold flow properties.

What is this new test all about? The American Society for Testing of Materials has recently added the cold soak filtration analysis and defined it as: the time in seconds that it takes for cold soaked biodiesel to pass through two 0.8 micron filters and the amount of particulate matter expressed in milligrams per (mg/l) collected on the filter. Why is this new test important? The problem is when biodiesel is stored in temperatures below 40 degrees F. for extended time periods, certain particles within the fuel solution will fall out of the fuel to the bottom of the storage tanks. This particle fall out will build into an ever thickening layer of build up at the bottom. Generally the colder the temperature and the longer the fuel stays at that temperature, will induce even more material to fall out.

The material has the potential to plug filters, increase maintenance cost and at worst shut down engines. What is this material that falls out? It has to do with the feedstock that the biodiesel was produced from. Feedstocks, especially those produced with used cooking oils (UCO), waste vegetable oils (WVO), yellow grease or animal fats (Tallow) will produce high levels of fall out materials. These materials can also be caused by incomplete removal of glycerin, soaps, waxes, or resins during the Transesterification process.

In response to this problem companies such as 70CentsaGallon are offering in-expensive options like Cold Clear. This system uses a three-stage bank of housings in a combination of filtration, adsorption and absorption principles to capture the materials that can cause plugging or crystallization in biodiesel fluids. This treatment system is solving the cold soak filtering dilemma in B-100 biodiesel and other biodiesel blends in a single pass while having little loss in yield.

This new ASTM test is a positive step in making biodiesel a more consistent consumer friendly product with the help of new technologies like Cold Clear.

The Swedish-based subsidiary of General Motors, Saab (producer of high quality Saab components like Saab thermostat), has recently claimed leadership in the growing flex-fuel segment with the introduction of its unique BioPower concept. The system makes use of the combination of turbo-charging that utilizes E85 to increase engine power and performance.

CO2 emissions were also reduced by up to 80 percent. The Saab 9-5 BioPower has set the standard for biofuel cars in Ireland. The options are now made available to a broader range of customers especially with the new Saab 9-3 range that features a choice of two powerful BioPower engines—an innovative 180bhp (132kW), twin-turbo 1.9 diesel, an uprated 280bhp (206kW), 2.8V6 turbo petrol engine and an additional 175 bhp 2.0t Saab BioPower option that delivers 200bhp (147 kW) when operating on bioethanol E85 fuel.

The introduction of the Saab 9-5 BioPower was just perfect considering that the Government has released its support for flex-fuel vehicles by providing 50 percent rebate of VRT, vehicle registration tax and VAT refund on E85 fuel for company cars.

The new Saab 9-5 BioPower when running on E85 reduced CO2 emissions by 80 percent thereby protecting the environment and helping the economy especially since the bioethanol used is derived from whey which is a by-product of cheese production and distributed Maxol.

In addition, the new 9-3 BioPower 1.8t engine that also runs on E85 fuel delivers 16 percent more maximum power plus 10 percent more torque. Meanwhile, the Sport Saloon can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 8.4 seconds and reach 80-120 kph in fifth gear in 13.9 seconds, as compared to the 9.5 seconds and 15.0 seconds respectively, on petrol.

The 9-3 range presently features a potent new four cylinder diesel engine with a unique two-stage turbo charging system which is a world’s first in the premium car segment. The 1.9 liter, 16-valve engine that is badged with TTiD, revs up 180bhp (132kW) and 400Nm of maximum torque unmatched among competitive cars on the market. The combined fuel consumption for the Sport Saloon is projected at 5.91/100k. Its engine offers class-leading economy, coupled with in-gear performance on par with the 2.8V6 turbo petrol engine.

Both the Aero and Vector Sport specification levels are to be equipped with the Saab TTiD engine. Scheduled in the spring of 2008, the Saab TTiD engine will join the present lines of powerful engines offered by the Swedish automaker including the 120 bhp (88kW) and 150 bhp (110 kW) 1.9 TiD engines which are offered with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

BaxTek Solutions has formed a strategic alliance with Biofuel Consultants. Biofuel is a cleaner burning alternative fuel and the only alternative fuel to successfully complete the health effects testing requirements of the Clean Air Act. This simple to use, biodegradable, non-toxic and essentially sulfur/aromatic free fuel can either be used directly in certain vehicles refined and used in diesel engines or mixed with petroleum diesel to create a blend for diesel engines.

Â

Our customer-oriented teams use a state of the art “no-spill” vacuum system to transfer the oil from the customers’ location to the plant, where the oil is converted to biofuel or blended with petroleum diesel to create biodiesel fuel. 100% of all collected oil is recycled.

Â

Produced domestically, biofuel and biodiesel can help relieve U.S. dependence on foreign petroleum. Made from natural, renewable resources such as vegetable oils, animal fats and recycled cooking oils, biofuel is less toxic than table salt and as biodegradable as sugar. In its pure form it can be handled, stored and transported with the same guidelines as vegetable oil and creates approximately 80% less carbon dioxide and 100% less sulfur emissions than petroleum based diesel fuels.
