In today’s depressive stock market it is hard to find a silver lining. Green investing is a way to feel good about your stocks and mutual funds while having the potential to make a healthy return on investment. Socially responsible investing makes sense during the corruption on Wall Street and the search for alternative energy sources.
Green investing is finally coming into the mainstream. People can do what’s right for the environment and build wealth too! Socially responsible investing has been around for decades and is now becoming popular. SRI already has $2.3 trillion in investments. SRI started by appealing to investors who wanted to avoid sin stocks, the stocks of companies that are involved in alcohol, tobacco, and gambling. Â

Today, Social Responsible Investing is an all encompassing term that generally means screening companies out that are abusive to the environment, practice poor labor relations, are not responsible to their communities and lack corporate integrity. SRI has evolved to serve in an advocacy manner. The new focus by consumers, business and government on sustainability and the environment has created its own category of SRI. Goldman Sachs, the darling of Wall Street, has already set aside $1.5 billion to privately invest in green companies. CalPERS; one of the country’s largest institutional investors, has set aside more than a billion dollars for green investments.

How do you catch the green investing wave? The most practical and probably most efficient way to put money to work in a SRI is via an SRI mutual fund. Other ways to invest are via an Exchange Traded Fund and by owning stocks individually. The latter way takes more time, expertise and is riskier as you are not diversified as well as a mutual fund.

Not all SRI funds are alike. For decades SRI has screened out companies that were considered socially or ethically unacceptable. Now green funds screen in companies that are making a positive impact. Today’s green funds include some surprising choices as more and more blue-chip companies are becoming green-chip companies.

How do they work? Imagine if you or I try and ask a CEO about changing her packaging for products or about ending abusive consumer practices. We would not get too far. But imagine a pot of $2 trillion dollars invested by SRI managers speaking about these things to CEO’s? For better or worse, having that much money under management gives them an open ear to management. This shareholder advocacy becomes a powerful force for improvement.

SRI aligns your money with your interests. In my opinion, companies that focus on doing right by the consumer, the environment, the marketplace and all other constituents tend to do better over the long term. It is those who focus on the short term and take shortcuts that tend to be disappointing investments. Sustainability is not just about us as humans on this earth but is also relevant to companies and investments.

In the past, being altruistic and investing was not as correlated as they can be today. You can put money to work, funding newer renewable energy technologies and have your money working in an area that is the next challenge for our country while offering a potential favorable return on your money. A major Wall Street firm recently put out a research report titled “Clean Energy: Sustainable Opportunities.” They predicted that annual clean-energy revenue opportunities could reach $500 billion by 2020 and a trillion annually by 2030. This is an exciting time indeed!

Green energy is generally defined as energy sources that dont pollute and are renewable. As technology advances and a greater storage of solar collection materials is made available, more and more private investors will see the value of investing in this “green” technology and further its implementation much more. And, of course, wherever you live, by adding economical solar and wind power to your home yourself, you will help us reduce our consumption of the world’s natural resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Â

Some homeowners are looking for alternatives like to make solar panels to create green energy for their homes in order to reducepersonal energy cots. Any person with basic knowledge with regular home tools should be ableto build their own renewable energy generator and get it up and readyto produce green electricity in no time. Even if you aren’t technically inclined, well illustrated instructions make constructing these panels a relatively simple project. There’s no best time to make your green energy home and start living your dreams in green. Â

Best Green Energy Tutorial

Now, you can stop wasting your hard earned money on your electrical bill, and help save the Earth at the same time. Basically, you’re getting a how to guide on exactly how to build a solar or wind-based electric generators that can save you loads of money on your electric bill for years to come. Â

This is not a free guide, you will need to spend money for the guide $49.97. However, if you are serious and willing to put the time and effort into this project, then the money is of course well spent with future money saved from the power company. One of the main benefits of homemade energy is the amount of money you can save. You don’t just save money on your power bill, but by building solar panels yourself, you save more money on the cost of buying a solar panel. Â

Home Made Energy has been at the top of the digital book charts for quite a while now. There is good reason for that — this product is full of value and contains step-by-step information for anyone who even has an inkling that they’d like to live “off the grid.”

For starters, this package comes complete with the Home Made Energy guide, step-by-step videos, a free gift discussing biodiesel, a section for purchasing parts you will need, and even tax rebate forms to use in order to claim what you deserve from Uncle Sam for making this “green” decision!

If you’re concerned about the startup cost that will come along with this, Michael understands where you’re coming from! He details specific ways you can get your solar panels for free. These tips alone are well worth the cost of purchasing the Earth 4 Energy products. This is an investment that can save you thousands of dollars per year — which is a great thing all on its own.
Hydropower – The use of moving water to turn giant turbines which in turn create electricity.

Anaerobic Digestion – The burning of “farts” from microorganisms after they digest biodegradable material to create electricity.

Geothermal Power – The generation of electricity by harnessing the heat stored beneath the earth’s surface to turn turbines as it rises into the atmosphere.

Biomass Power – The burning of biomass material, such as dead plants and plant-like materials, to create energy. Biofuel is a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels.

Arguably, nuclear power is a form of green energy. The process of splitting atoms and harnessing the resulting energy is much cleaner than burning coal or oil. However, problems with disposing of nuclear waste lay claim that this method is neither efficient nor effective in cutting CO2 emissions.

No form of energy creation is entirely impact-free. Even the manufacturing and installation of wind turbines creates CO2 emissions before the turbines can generate the first ampere of electricity. However, all of these energy sources are more efficient and less polluting than burning coal and oil.

Home wind power is regarded to be amongst the most inexpensive, gainful, and dependable alternative energy resolutions. Home Wind Power is efficient, clean and affordable. Installations of home wind power systems have skyrocketed in the past three years as wind turbine technology has improved, incentives have increased and oil and electricity prices have fluctuated.

Home wind power has come of age as a key component of the trend towards renewable energy sources like solar energy, biomass, hydroelectric, tidal and geothermal. All wind systems consist of a wind turbine, a tower, wiring, and the “balance of system” components: controllers, inverters, and/or batteries.

Vertical wind turbines which are otherwise known as a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) are becoming more common place in residential installations, and here are just a few reasons why. Unlike a horizontal wind turbine a vertical wind turbine does not have to be pointed into the wind to produce power. Being that the turbine is mounted on a vertical axis means that the blades will always be facing into the wind. Â

A vertical wind turbine does not require the gearbox and generator to be mounted high on the tower which means that the assembly can be mounted close to or on the ground which makes for easier access and maintenance. Finally the vertical wind turbine has a lower start-up speed over the horizontal axis wind turbine which allows for the turbine to start generating electricity more often in low wind areas.

Home Wind Power As Investment

Home wind power is regarded to be amongst the most inexpensive, gainful, and dependable alternative energy resolutions. Home Wind Power is efficient, clean and affordable. Installations of home wind power systems have skyrocketed in the past three years as wind turbine technology has improved, incentives have increased and oil and electricity prices have fluctuated.

If you are building a home in a remote location, a small wind energy system can help you avoid the high costs of extending utility power lines to your site. Another reason why home wind power kits are becoming a hot topic is that a lot of people want to reduce their energy costs but don’t want to spend money on expensive solar panels. Finally the vertical wind turbine has a lower start-up speed over the horizontal axis wind turbine which allows for the turbine to start generating electricity more often in low wind areas. Â

All types of renewable energy can actively contribute to protecting the environment from further damage, while saving money on utility bills. Home wind power is one of the best ways that you could possibly go if you are looking to save money and help the environment at the same time. Of course how much money one can save by utilizing the wind is going to determine on the type of terrain that exists in the area of which one lives. Regulations vary from city to city, and state to state, so they need to be checked out before spending any money. Â

Conclusion

If home wind power does suit your purposes, there are a wide variety of kits available that can have you saving money and producing your power in no time at all. Move with the times and stop paying power company profits out of your hard earned money by making the choice to get home wind power now. Â

Forget about spending $3,000 or more for factory made windmills and solar panels because if you can follow simple step-by-step instructions and invest just $200 then you can transform your energy-using home into an energy producing “green home”. Better yet, if you produce more electricity than you use, the electric company is obligated by law to buy it from you at current market price! So imagine it instead of mailing a check to the electric company each month they could be sending YOU a check each month!

Imagine a life without the conveniences we have all come to expect from today’s modern infrastructure. Every time you flush the toilet, turn on a light, run the air conditioner, open the refrigerator, brush your teeth, drink a glass of water, cook on your stove top, listen to your ipod, shop at the store, drive your car, take a shower, call your Mom, mow the lawn, or simply sit out back with a cool glass of iced tea, you are relying on an intricate and webbed structure of supply and distribution networks that make all these “small” conveniences possible. What many of us don’t consider – or even think about – is that this supply and distribution network is very interdependent, meaning that disturbances in one part of the network can send shock waves throughout the entire system, affecting hundreds of thousands of people and households in very unpredictable ways.

As an example, consider a “simple” 7-day power outage, (an increasingly common occurrence in today’s uncertain world). Once the power grid is gone, so is the power to pump water, waste-water, power street lights, store lights, house lights, refrigeration, heating systems, security systems, telecommunication systems, gasoline pumps, and more. You will not be able to go to the store to buy the food, water, medication and supplies you so desperately need because the stores will be closed; those stores that are somehow able to remain open will be sold out within hours. You will not be able to drive to an unaffected location because the gasoline pumps will not be operational – all you have is what is in your tank. Your refrigerated food will spoil within hours, your sewage will back up and you will have no fans to remove the smell and the heat, or heaters to warm you from the biting cold. Ice will disappear in the warmer latitudes. You will run out of food as soon as your pantry is empty, and the only water you will have to drink, or clean with, is what you had in bottles before the outage occurred. If you have an emergency, you will not be able to call 911 because telecommunications will likely be down.

What will the next 7 days look like for you and your family? Here is what it looked like for one of SurvivalOutpost.com‘s customers:

”We had no idea how the power outage would affect us. We planned ahead, but there are so many things you don’t think of, and water runs out so quickly. We had to wait in lines for water. Who would have thought that a toilet takes almost three gallons to fill just to flush! People around here would have paid any amount of money for a battery operated fan – we were miserable!” – Renee Sutherland, Hurricane Gustav Survivor

If you are not adequately prepared, it is likely that you will spend your week nervously standing in a long line of grumpy and seemingly hostile strangers, as you all wait on government aide (which may take days to arrive). If that sounds bad, then you now know what millions of unprepared people have lived through (or in some cases — not), after a major disaster struck them.

Peace of mind in these uncertain times comes through reasonable readiness – a balance between personal responsibility to prepare for likely natural and man-made disasters, an acknowledgment that it could actually happen to you and your family, and an appreciation that there is a safety net out there prepared to help…but one that you will have to be prepared to wait on. It’s the wait that can hurt you:

”I live in north west Pennsylvania. Inland United States. Who would have ever thought that I should be prepared for a one-week power outage from a hurricane that made landfall in Texas! Ike shot right up the country, hit us with 80 mph winds and left us totally unprepared. There was a run on Wal-Mart, and I had to rely on my neighbors to help me through the disruption. One neighbor had a generator, and he went from home to home giving each of us one hour of power to cool our food and what limited water we had left.” Alita Gail – Hurricane Ike Survivor

The survival question in today’s complex and increasingly unpredictable and dangerous world is simple: Given the potential hazards that are likely to affect you (such as an economic collapse that severely disrupts our supply chain and support networks, or a natural disaster Katrina scale, or social unrest, etc.), do you have the necessary supplies on hand to make it through the waiting period…to remain at home with peace of mind in the comfort and company of your family and loved ones? Or will you be waiting anxiously in a long line of strangers, hoping to make it to the front before they run out of supplies?

The choice, and decision, is yours… Never forget that when the time for action is upon you, the time to prepare is gone.

Stay safe. Stay informed. Be prepared.

Water is a precious commodity and to that end the ancient world even worshipped it. The Egyptians had Osiris the God of Water, the Greeks had Poseidon the Ruler of the Sea and the Romans had Juturna the Goddess of Springs/Water. There have been prayers said to stop rain, to start rain and even to part seas. In our modern times water is still an issue as so much of the world are without clean drinking water which is responsible for many deaths, large parts of the world are without water and an equal part are inundated with the stuff at unexpected moments leading to flooding becoming an increasing problem.

Water is a very powerful commodity and has been used as the source of much muscle for generating electricity and powering many machines. It has also inspired products of industrial design that use this natural source as a driving force.

An alarm clock is now being marketed that runs on water. Two small reservoirs are filled with water and use electrolytes to generate the small amount of electricity needed. There is also a satellite navigation device that is powered by a fuel cell that runs on methanol. At three times the energy produced than four AA batteries and up to sixty hours of usage this handy little product of industrial design even comes with a USB port for charging mobile phones or mp3 players.

Fuel cell technology is the way forward when it comes to industrial design of the future. A liquid fuel powered mobile phone and a water powered battery that can run for two years before it needs re-fuelling are about to be launched. Lugging around spare batteries could soon be a thing of the past for photographers with Mobion working on a prototype methanol fuel cell for cameras.

Thanks to inventiveness from the realms of product design we now have the HydroPak. This is a portable fuel cell generator that runs on water and will charge a laptop ten times on a single tank and the ultimate boys toy? The H Racer. A miniature car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. A separate solar powered hydrogen generator uses the power of the sun to split water to produce hydrogen is a clever idea – if only they could apply it to full size cars and avoid having us all at the mercy of the tax man and his petrol prices.

When it comes to the environment, scientists in industrial design are working hard to bring about changes that will ensure lasting benefits. Water is wasted all the time by modern homes and modern gadgets such as washing machines. The average home will use 37 pints of water a day through their washing machine which is a 23 per cent rise in the last 15 years, too much to be acceptable.

Given the above figures, if all households were to invest in one of the new washing machines available then they could be drastically reduced. This machine uses only a cup of water for a full wash, leaving clothes virtually dry and also aiding the environment by reducing the need for tumble driers and the electricity needed to run one.

This energy usage equates to only two per cent of a conventional washing machine and works by using thousands of plastic chips to absorb and remove dirt. Around 44lb of the chips are added to the wash load along with a cup full of heated water. The chips can be re-used up to one hundred times and would last the average family six months, saving billions of litres of water.

Industrial design has bought about significant changes in the way we do things and it is now using all it’s know how to put right the damage of previous products. Learning, growing and moving forward can only be a good thing.

With the fluctuating price of oil, and gas prices at the pumps going up more often than going down, people have been thinking about hydrogen for cars. In particular they have been asking how to build a Hydrogen Fuel Cell so they can run cars on water as well as gas.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars, sometimes called water powered cars are nothing new, the technology to run cars on water as a supplement to your ordinary gasoline has been around for years. And now the internet is flooded with guides and plans showing you how to build a hydrogen fuel cell, or (how to make a hydrogen generator for your car as it comes down to the same thing.)

I think that hydrogen fuel cell cars are going to catch on in a really big way. Not only are they very easy to make, but also cheap enough for anyone to build one. You can convert your cars into water power cars for as little as $100, and all the parts you will need can be bought from local hardware stores or at auto stores.

So how does hydrogen for cars work?
The basis behind hydrogen fuel cell cars is a simple process called electrolysis this is the act of breaking water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen to create a gas called HHO gas or Brown’s gas. This gas is then mixed with gasoline in your cars engine and burned in the usual way. But as this mixture burns a lot more efficiently you get a smoother running engine and more mpg.

Basically what you will need to build a DIY hydrogen fuel cell are just a few simple parts. These include a small container to hold water, one that will fit under your cars hood in the engine compartment. You will also need some baking soda (to act as a catalyst) some electrical wire, some steel plates, glass pieces, and a few other items as listed in the different guides.

Once these parts are put together in the correct way the electricity from your cars engine is used to power the whole thing. This electrical current starts the electrolysis process which produces the HHO gas. This gas rises to the top of the water container where it is sucked up through some tubing and mixed with the regular gasoline + air mixture. This combined fuel mixture burns with up to 3 times as much power as ordinary gasoline. This is what gives you a more efficient engine which in turn allows you to get more mpg.

So if you are one of the many people who are fed up paying high gas prices and want to know how to build a hydrogen fuel cell to run cars on water as well as gas, then I would recommend that you make a DIY hydrogen fuel cell. Using one of the downloadable guides from the internet to show you how to convert your cars into hydrogen fuel cell cars you will be able to get more mpg and save a fortune on gasoline.
